The fire-damaged Publix Super Markets Inc. in St. Pete Beach will be rebuilt at nearly twice its current size.

New York-based Brixmor Property Group, which owns shopping center Dolphin Village, said Monday that the Lakeland-based grocer is proposing one of its larger prototypes — 51,000 square feet — to replace the fire-damaged store. If St. Pete Beach approves the redevelopment plans, the new store will replace the existing 33,000-square-foot Publix with a larger supermarket and covered parking below the elevated store level.
