Could Tampa's West Shore business district become home to a new mini convention center? Hillsborough's Tourist Development Council voted Thursday to put up $25,000 for a study to find out if a market exists for a facility to host meetings and small conventions. West Shore hotel operators are concerned about filling the burgeoning number of rooms in the area. "We believe this will do the trick for the market," said Jim Bartholomay, general manager of the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza and TDC board member. The facility would target groups too small to consider using the city-owned Tampa Convention Center, board member Bob Morrison said.
