Walmart plans smaller-format store in Lakewood Ranch

Walmart Inc. is planning to open one of its smaller-format stores in Lakewood Ranch.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer is planning a 48,000-square-foot store with an attached liquor store near the intersection of State Road 70 and Uihlein Road in Bradenton, according to a permit from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The Walmart will span nearly 8 acres across vacant land.
