Water Street developer SPP settles into its post-Vinik era

In mid-2023, after nearly a decade of planning and building Water Street Tampa, the developers behind the urban district found themselves at an inflection point.

The first phase of Water Street — which simultaneously built eight high-rise buildings and renovated two others — was complete. Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, who formed development company Strategic Property Partners in 2013 and was the face of its ambitions, was exiting the firm.
