The 35,000-square-foot pool deck is one of the popular features for residents at the Towers of Channelside

TAMPA -- The developer sees a win-win in charity events doubling as promotion for unsold units, but residents at the Towers of Channelside say offering their 35,000-square-foot pool deck to outsiders has to stop.

A small group of residents that includes former University of South Florida president and one-time U.S. Senate candidate Betty Castor is calling upon Towers of Channelside LLC to stop hosting events like one planned for Sunday with host Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Alex Smith.

Similar parties bringing in hundreds of people, the residents say, have left damage and upset neighbors.

"It's very disappointing, very unusual and it's very unfair," said Castor, who stepped down from her position as a homeowner's association board member Monday in part because of this issue.
