The majority of people living in downtown:

•Are younger than 45

60 percent

•Make $50,000 to $149,999 a year (per household)

61 percent

•Live in a condo or loft

63.2 percent

•Own their residence

74.5 percent

•Work outside of downtown

60.2 percent

•Have been living in the Bay area for six years or more

62 percent

•Have been living in their downtown residence four years or less

72 percent

Now that these residents are settled in, the focus has turned to the availability of goods and services. Retail shops and restaurants are in high demand, but experts warn that businesses won't continue to pop up without more people moving in.
