RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Jeff and Penny Vinik pick up another Palma Ceia home The Viniks closed on 908 S Golf View St. on March 24 for $5 million, according to Hillsborough County property records. The sale appears to be a private transaction; the 3,592-square-foot home on .41 acres was not listed for sale, according to the Multiple Listing Service. A mortgage for the transaction has not been filed, indicating that the Viniks paid cash for the property.
The seller was a trustee, property records show.
It's not known what the Viniks have planned for their new acquisition on Golf View Street, though the home is a candidate to be torn down. It was built in 1948 and is much smaller than its neighbors. By comparison, the Viniks' home next door is just under 15,000 square feet or roughly four times the size of the one they just purchased.
A spokeswoman for Vinik was not immediately available for comment Monday.
It is the Viniks' third home purchase in Palma Ceia; beyond the two properties on Golf View Street, they also own a home one street over on East Jean Circle. The couple also owns the penthouse at the Tampa Edition, for which they paid more than $8 million last year. In Sarasota, they own a waterfront mansion on St. Armands Key that they built after razing another home on that property.
The Viniks' portfolio of luxury homes, however, pales in comparison to Jeff Vinik's commercial holdings in the area. He is a partner in Strategic Property Partners, the development firm behind Water Street Tampa. Water Street, which is coming to life with restaurant openings and street-level retail, includes three apartment towers, office tower Thousand and One, the Tampa Edition and the JW Marriott. |
