Mediterranean chain Cava coming to South Tampa

Popular Mediterranean chain Cava is coming to South Tampa.

Cava, which acquired Zoe's Kitchen in late 2018, plans to convert the South Howard location of Zoe's to Cava, according to Tampa building records. It appears to be part of a push by the chain to enter Florida; the company is converting several Zoe's locations in the Jacksonville area to Cava, and it lists a Winter Park store as coming soon.

Cava is known for its bowls that feature small-batch Mediterranean dips and spreads. Several of its products, including its hummus, feta spreads and sauces, are sold in Whole Foods Market and other grocery stores.

A representative from Cava was not immediately available for comment Wednesday. It's unknown if the company plans to convert Carrollwood and St. Petersburg locations to Cava.

The South Tampa Zoe's is on the street level of The Morrison, a mixed-use development on South Howard and West Morrison avenues. It was the Tampa Bay region's first when it signed a lease for the 2,800-square-foot space in 2016.
