RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Citrus Innovation Center to break ground at Florida Polytechnic University Minneapolis-based Ryan Cos., which has a large presence in Florida, said it will build the 28,000-square-foot facility at 4700 Research Way. It's slated to break ground this summer and wrap up construction in the third quarter of 2023. Harrison Street Real Estate Capital will own and maintain the building upon completion.
“Chosen as the trusted partner in creating environments that will enhance the learning experience for the researchers, faculty and students, now and for years to come, Ryan is thrilled to be awarded the opportunity to work alongside Florida Polytechnic and IFF in order to propel Florida’s citrus industry forward," JP Bacariza, vice president and Tampa market leader, said in a statement.
The Florida Board of Governors approved the public-private partnership in September 2021. IFF, the university previously said, will occupy laboratory and creative space in the new building, which will be privately financed. IFF will also offer internships and jobs to Florida Poly students and will look to collaborate on faculty research.
The new center will also include a private citrus research garden.
The architecture team at Ryan focused on "highlighting the ephemeral behavior of flavors and fragrances through the design of the building." An "undulating ribbon of perforated metal panels ensconces the building and flows through the central spine of the interior," Ryan said, with the ribbon reflecting "the density and discernment of aromas, scents and taste sensations, accentuating moments of sensory experience, and the flow of those experiences, between spaces."
"The new Citrus Innovation Center is a perfect blend of artistry, science and expertise," Mauricio Poulsen, IFF's vice president of global innovation, creation and design, said in a statement. "The innovation center that supports our citrus research and development activities will provide sensory and experience venues, research labs, processing and analytical departments, and amenities for hosting visiting guests and researchers." |
