Art deco-style apartment complex planned for Channel District

Another apartment complex is planned for Tampa's Channel District.

FCI Development Eleven, a division of West Palm Beach-based Florida Crystals Corp., said Wednesday that it plans to build a 300-unit, eight-story apartment complex along Kennedy Boulevard between 11th and 12th streets. Part of the 2.25-acre site housed the former Amazon Hose and Rubber Co.

The apartment complex, the name of which wasn't announced, will have a parking structure alongside the building, allowing most tenants to park on their own floor. The building and the units will have a modern architectural feel inspired by Miami Beach's art deco design.

FCI Development Eleven is part of the real estate division of sugar producer Florida Crystals. FCI focuses on multifamily residential projects in urban areas and has about 2,500 units under development throughout Florida.

The site, which has been vacant for nearly a decade, was purchased this month from Finergy Channelside Holding, which bought it in 2006.
