Gibbons plans $2.2M development in St. Pete's Midtown

Former St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Deveron Gibbons is planning a new development in Midtown that will include a Circle K gas station, retail store and fast food restaurant.

Gibbons, who is an executive at Amscot, submitted a proposal for the development of about 2 acres on the southwest corner of 18 th Avenue S and 22 nd Street, the Tampa Bay Times said. He made the submission earlier this year to develop the vacant property and is currently in negotiations with the city and has proposed leasing the land from the city for $30,000 per year.

City officials hope to bring an agreement before city council in October.

The project is part of the Tangerine redevelopment area and, once finalized, would create about 40 jobs, according to the proposal. "We grew up there. We're from that part of the neighborhood," Gibbons told the Times. "Whatever we decided to do, we wanted to try to give back to the neighborhood. It's something we think can add value."

Gibbons estimates the development will cost about $2.2 million.
