Growing PGT buys 2.5-acre site for trailer space

The Venice-based window manufacturer PGT purchased 2.5 acres to accommodate additional trailer space for its delivery trucks. The 2.5-acre site, purchased from Sarasota furniture owner Edward L. Kalin, is at 3459 Precision Drive.

PGT has already leased the site for years but decided to buy it for the price of $450,000, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune said. The land is able to hold about 75 trailers. Business has been booming for PGT as the state's home building industry rebounds. It is the largest publicly-traded company in Sarasota County and is among the largest in Tampa Bay.

PGT also is in the midst of an expansion including a 96,000-square-foot plant, which is expected to cost $12 million to $14 million and take about a year to complete. PGT needs the plant to meet increased demand for products as the housing market gains traction.
