Duke Realty to build office/warehouse for Duke Energy

Duke Energy (formerly Progress Energy) is building a 45,132-square-foot administration office and warehouse building at its Bartow power plant on Weedon Island north of St. Petersburg.

The Orlando office of Duke Realty Corp. has been selected as the design-build/general contractor for the project.

The two companies are not affiliated. Neither company would release the cost of the project.

Construction of the build-to-suit facility will begin later this month and is expected to be completed by February 2014. The project will create about 150 construction jobs.

The Bartow project includes a 23,985-square-foot office space and 21,147-square-foot warehouse space on nearly 4 acres on the south side of the plant.
The plant was upgraded at a cost of $800 million in 2009 to triple its generating capacity. In February 2012, three landmark smokestacks were imploded at the site.

The Pinellas project is the third build-to-suit project Duke Realty has been selected to develop for Duke Energy in Florida. Duke Realty was the design-build/GC of a 73,000-square-foot facility for the utility company in Crystal River, and the general contractor of a 28,000-square-foot facility in Wildwood.
