Honeywell sells local warehouse at $750,000

SARASOTA COUNTY - Aerospace contractor Honeywell International Inc. sold a 46,000-square-foot manufacturing warehouse here to a Sarasota company for $750,000.

The buyer of the property at 1845 57th Street in Sarasota County was 1845 57th Street LLC, a local company managed by Jesse and Shirley Medlock.

Honewell paid $166,700 for the complex in April 1979.

In 2008, Honeywell closed the plant, moving jobs there to Freeport, Ill., and Juarez, Mexico. The plant made speed and direction sensors.

The loss of the jobs was a blow to the local manufacturing community because they included assemblers, clerks, machinists and a handful of engineers.

The Morris Township, N.J.- based Honeywell International, which still has about 132,000 employees, reported a profit of $950 million, or $1.20 per share, in the third quarter, up from $862 million, or $1.10 per share, a year earlier.

Sales edged up 0.5 percent to $9.34 billion.
