Maryland company files $35 million lawsuit against Clearwater businessman

A Maryland company recently filed a $35 million lawsuit in Pinellas County against Clearwater businessman Fida Sirdar of Key Developers Group. Baltimore-based Legg Mason Real Estate Capital Inc. filed the lawsuit in an attempt to collect a $35 million judgment awarded against Sirdar by a Los Angeles judge in April. Sirdar never responded to the Los Angeles lawsuit, records show. He spearheaded the 2005 construction of the Place at Channelside, a luxury condominium complex near the Port of Tampa. In 2007, dozens of buyers at the Place at Channelside sued Sirdar to back out of condo deals in the 245-condo complex. After Sirdar filed for bankruptcy, a judge ordered 171 of the 245 units to be sold at auction in October 2008. Sirdar could not be reached for comment.
