Projects Win City's OK On Zoning

TAMPA - The city council has unanimously approved zoning changes for two Central Tampa developments.

North Carolina developer Crosland will turn a 7-acre former city landfill into a $75 million project with luxury apartments and senior housing at Lois Avenue and Spruce Street.

The 350 apartments will be 625 square feet to 1,250 square feet. A 1,000-square-foot unit will rent for $1,600 a month, the company says.

Crosland has contracted with the Richmond Group to construct a six-story building of up to 160 affordable senior apartments. The senior housing was added to the project at the suggestion of Carver City/Lincoln Gardens residents.

The project also will have 12,700 square feet of retail.

Also at its July 19 meeting, the council approved zoning for Castillo Housing Corp. to build 10 more single-family homes on Cordelia and Ivy streets in West Tampa.

Castillo had proposed 19 town houses but changed plans because of the weak market. The developer had approval for six single-family houses on the 2.4-acre property and has built four of them.

Castillo will also build an 8,000-square-foot commercial building at 3300 N. Armenia Ave. Castillo will move its headquarters from 1201 N. Clearview Ave. and occupy 3,500 square feet of the new building.
