Formulated Solutions, a pharmaceutical and skin care products manufacturer, has paid $8.3 million for a vacant 142,000-square-foot Smith & Nephew plant at 11775 Starkey Road in Largo.

Meanwhile, Formulated has put its 32,000-square-foot headquarters at Icot Center in Clearwater up for sale since the acquisition will almost double the company's local footprint, which includes leased space, according to Colliers International, the Clearwater brokerage that handled the sale and has the listing.

Formulated Solutions officials declined to detail their plans.

Smith & Nephew, a British medical products manufacturer, eliminated 160 jobs and vacated the plant last fall after moving its wound treatment production facility to China. Smith & Nephew kept its sales and administration offices in the bay area by moving them to the Carillon Business Park in St. Petersburg.
