Historic Woodmont Clubhouse reopens in Temple Terrace

Residents gathered Tuesday evening for the grand reopening of one of the oldest buildings in Temple Terrace. The Woodmont Clubhouse, which just got a facelift, is the sole remaining structure from the days when Chicago socialite Bertha Palmer owned a 19,000-acre hunting ranch here called Riverhills. Work to restore the wood-frame structure included shoring up the foundation and rewiring the nearly 100-year-old building. The nearly $100,000 remodel also includes new floors, wall coverings, window treatments and WiFi Internet. The facility is used now for community meetings, weddings and other events. The 4,269-square-foot clubhouse was built in 1923, according to property records. However, Ruth Morris, Woodmont Clubhouse Association president, said some parts of the structure could date to 1910 when Palmer first came to Florida. "It is one of the gems of Temple Terrace," Morris said.
