RV kingpin, wife's mansion for sale

TAMPA - The tricked-out RV typically parked in front of the iconic Bayshore Boulevard mansion of Don and Erika Wallace soon may be moving for good.

The 13,033-square-foot home of the founder of Lazydays RV SuperCenter has a for sale sign in the front yard. Realtor Toni Everett of the Toni Everett Co. said the couple have not settled on an asking price, but she already is talking to potential buyers.

Everett, known for handling luxury property sales, said she has received three phone calls from serious buyers.

"People want this home," she said. "It's just a matter of finding the right buyer at right price."

The Mediterranean home isn't the biggest in the Bay area, but it's the largest on Bayshore Boulevard, and it has been one of the most talked about. With the high-profile location, most everyone in Tampa knows where the Wallaces live.

The home was built in 1997, despite community protests from preservationists upset that Wallace tore down the historical Swann House. At the time, some said the new house was tacky and out of place on Tampa's most scenic boulevard, but the home has become one of many jewels in a long row of estates.

It features 12- to 20-foot ceilings, 1.5 acres of land and stretches from Bayshore Boulevard to Richardson Place. It has a 2-bedroom guest house, two pavilions, a gazebo and a caretaker's office, Everett said.

Everett is tight-lipped on the price, but the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's Office estimates the value at just more than $6 million. County estimates tend to run below market value.

Some real estate professionals have raised eyebrows that a home of this magnitude is on the market in such a difficult economy. Everett said the economy doesn't affect anyone with enough money to buy the house.

"People who enjoy and can afford the quality of this home will always be able to buy this type of house," she said. "And (the Wallaces) don't have to sell. They can keep it as a city home."

So why give up the mansion? It may have something to with the megaestate the couple are building in Thonotosassa.

The new home, which county records show will have 26,154 square feet of livable space, will be more than double the size of the Bayshore home. The building plans, which detail three stories, two swimming pools, a steam room, outdoor kitchen and game room, cover a total of nearly 40,000 square feet.
