Greeno Painting Services and Lantmännen Unibake invest in Dome Industrial Park

The city's Dome Industrial Park pilot project was supposed to attract a private employer and 600 jobs. Instead, it got a public owner and 120 jobs.

But other goals of the redevelopment plan adopted by the City Council in 2000 have fared better - such as the claim it would spur other development in the park.

"It's starting to see quite a bit more investment," said Dave Goodwin, director of planning and economic development for the city.

Kevin Greeno, who moved Greeno Painting Services to 230 21st St. S in 2001, invested nearly $1 million in his building and equipment. He just bought an adjoining parcel and plans to invest another $1 million to add 10,000 square feet. He says he expects a Canadian company to bring 60 to 80 manufacturing jobs to the area, which would bring him enough additional business to add 10 to 20 high-paying jobs.

His partnership with the city has been "terrific," he said. He benefits from tax incentives and has been recommended for work.

Meanwhile, the Danish company that bought Euro-Bake last year, Lantmännen Unibake, has purchased three parcels near its bakery at 1927 Fourth Ave. S. An expansion could add 200 jobs, though the project won't break ground until at least 2012, said Scott Kolinski, president of Lantmännen Unibake USA.
