PLANT CITY - After pulling a record $152 million in permits in 2006, some thought builders might see a downturn in the new year.

But the good times continued to roll in January, according to the monthly building permit report.

The city issued permits for nearly $11.3 million in construction in January, one of the strongest showings in recent months.

The permit activity included 35 permits for single-family homes with a combined value of nearly $5.6 million. Other permits of note include ones for $3.3 million for a Reddy Ice plant at 604 Frontage Road North, $350,000 for Panera Bread at 2909 James L. Redman Parkway, No. 113, and $80,000 for Planet Beach Tanning Spa, 2909 James L. Redman Parkway No. 113.
