Is Hillsborough's tourism industry heading for a Downtown-West Shore smackdown? It looked that way Thursday when a PricewaterhouseCoopers consultant presented his initial study on a possible "multi-use'' event center for the West Shore district to the county's Tourist Development Council. Hotels operators in the district like the idea of a new venue to help fill their rooms. But Tampa City Council member Linda Saul-Sena voiced worries that such a facility would steal business from the city-owned Tampa Convention Center. "We made a significant investment in our convention center, and I don't want to do something to undermine (it),'' she said. The panel decided to hold a special meeting to consider going ahead with an in-depth feasibility study on the center.
